Beulah Cottage Reviews

A really great cottage in a quiet woodland location.
Lovely cottage ideal for us to see our three generations of family. Plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. The photos do not do it justice. Very well equipped which is surprisingly unusual, We are a family that likes to cook on holiday. The garden was beautiful and all you could hear was bird song. Rural but not far from civilisation. Walks from the cottage so no need to use your car.Would definitely stay again.
Jennifer
A very lovely place to stay, with a lot of space. Good equipment in the kitchen. Nice and clean. A lot of toys and entertainment for small people. Very quiet place, would recommend!
We had a lovely stay at Beulah Cottage over Christmas. The cottage was clean and welcoming when we arrived with wine, cookies and dog biscuits! The spot the cottage is in is quiet with almost no traffic and forest walks from the door without starting the car. The garden is extensive and the log burner worked really well. The equipment in the kitchen and the dresser was ample for our Christmas lunch and our hosts were able to tell us about specific things that we should bring e.g. an electric whisk.
There was a group of 5 adults and 2 children staying at the cottage for 3 nights. What a lovely location, coming through the forest and finding this gorgeous place. Very quiet and just a small number of houses nearby. We had 3 cars and 2 could park on the drive and 1 by the wall at the front of the cottage. There was cider and home made biscuits on arrival which was a lovely surprise. Everything we needed was there, although we didn't find the toys in the lounge cupboard until we were just about to leave! Property was really clean and well equipped. I had some queries over the weekend and the owner responded very quickly to my messages, which was great. There is a lovely walk to St Anthony's Well from the property. We also had great fun playing hide and seek in the huge garden. We heard owls and other wildlife at night, which was great fun.
Claire
We all had a great stay here, Beulah is a beautiful cottage. It was comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing break.
We had a lovely time thank you, we were 4 girls who met at college 43 years ago, catching up, and your home was perfect. Thanks
Richard
Fantastic cottage and garden in a lovely location
Joanna
Beautiful and peaceful setting, the cottage had everything we needed, it was clean and comfortable. Lots of information about the cottage and local areas and a good selection of games for everyone
We are a family of 6 adults who stayed at Beulah Cottage for 5 nights. We all much enjoyed our stay and all felt that it is a place with significant character. The living areas are spacious, the house has substantial grounds and is set in a beautiful location in the Forest of Dean. Whilst many of the fixtures and fittings are perhaps a bit dated, they complement or add to the character of the place. The owner makes you very welcome and is happy to sort out any problems. We would definitely stay here again.
Stephen
This cottage was exactly what we booked. we looked for a cottage in the forest of dean with loads of character .and this cottage had that in buckets .beautiful place comfortable plenty space awsome location
Stephen
Lovely place for a family retreat, with gorgeous garden space. House was clean and had all the right essentials for 68 people to stay at. Lots to do close by which was a bonus.
Deborah
The property was nice but a bit tired and dated. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had a good supply of cooking equipment. The TV instructions were a bit confusing until we worked out the correct selection was HDM2 not HDM1 as suggested in the information manual. The weather was lovely when we where there so some comfortable chairs for the garden would have been nice. The location was lovely and we did some nice walks in the area.
Alison
We really enjoyed our stay at beautiful Beulah cottage. The location is wonderful with stunning views of the forest and surrounding countryside from the lovely garden. The area is beautiful and we enjoyed great walks from the cottage and some lovely days out. The cottage is very cosy and well equipped and the children loved the games room, toys and rope swing in the garden. Thank you for a lovely stay. We would definitely like to return.
The 2nd visit this year was as lovely as the first and I brought 2 of my grown up children with me this time and they thought the cottage was amazing too. The cottage has a lovely homely feeling and the beds are so comfortable. I think the only let downs are the lack of attention to detail in the cleaning and the tired sofas which are very low to the ground. We found lots of things such as toys and paper had been missed during cleaning and I had to physically clean out the bottom of the dishwasher because it had lots of orange food left in the bottom of it. Also we found a lot of cutlery and some of the pans were greasy so we had to wash them thoroughly before we could use them. Overall, I adore this place and if the small oversights were attended to I feel it a perfect retreat and I would definitely go back for a 3rd stay.
Shirley Alina
We absolutely loved this property and its beautiful location. Absolutely spotlessly clean and so much character. The owners have clearly put a lot of love into the place and the garden is immaculate too. Would we stay here again absolutely!
Very comfortable and clean accommodation. Plenty of room for our party of 7. The toilets sometimes proved a challenge but was manageable. The shortbread biscuits and cider left for us were very appreciated and soon disappeared.
A beautiful cottage we really enjoyed staying there
Sarah Ann
Had a really lovely stay. Cottage very comfortable, cosy, spacious, with a beautiful garden. Just a few of observations. Garden gate leading up to the top of the garden has to be lifted up to be able to openclose it. Some people may find this awkward. Also, the bench up there is broken lovely spot to sit so could do with repairreplacing. I did have to clear up other people's dog mess on the bottom patio area near the kitchen window as didn't want anyone thinking that was mine it had clearly been used as a toilet area for one particular dog the odd poo is acceptable to miss but there were at least 6 very large clearly visible poops which gives the rest of us dog owners a bad name and risks properties not allowing dogs. Presume cleaners understandably wont clear up for next guest as it's not pleasant. Anyway, totally recommend the cottage the cider and dog treats were a nice touch thank you and would stay again if in the area
We all enjoyed a wonderful week here. It was so peaceful and the weather that we had helped us enjoy the very large and well kept gardens. The house inside is beautiful and characterful with everything that we needed available for a very comfortable stay. Apart from some cobwebs in the lounge area and some areas that looked like mould very low down, for example a corner of the dining room the cottage was very well presented and I hope to return again soon. Highly recommended. Thank you Allan and Jo for such a lovely holiday there.
Susanne
We couldn't have found a more perfect cottage. Quiet, restful and close to lovely places to visit. Special walks, exceptional beautiful garden with secret spaces to relax or play.
Eleanor
We had a really lovely stay and would definitely recommend to others. Such a beautiful location and would love to go back one day!
Lovely stay would definitely recommend this property to get away
This wonderful cottage was cosy and practical in a lovely quiet location. Ample parking. Perfect for 2 young grandchildren and a dog, as well as the adults. Great communication before arriving. We arrived to find welcome gifts, flowers in the room and a handwritten note with suggestions to visit the bluebell woods, which sadly we didn't have time to do. A huge garden and very handy location. We visited to the Sculpture trail and Goodrich castle.
Absolutely fabulous cottage. My friends and I had an amazing time. All the facilities you could need. Close to some great places. Wonderful garden. Peaceful village setting. Definitely a place to go to reset and relax.
Not enough comfortable chairs in living room. Though wood was a bit dear for fire. But saying that everything else was good. Bed were comfortable. Cottage was only just warm enough with the heating on.
This property has some nice authentic features like the log burners and beamed ceiling in a really nice location. It is well equipped with comfortable beds and hot water always available. However there were maintenance issues that we were not happy about. The fact there are no photos of the kitchen is a red flag and this is probably due to the sink issue. The wooden worktop which surrounds the inside of the butler style sink was black and really looked quite disgusting. The owner provided a lengthy account of how difficult it is to keep it treated with special products as its too expensive to replace, clearly this is a big problem. I will add photos on Tripadvisor. There is a cracked window in the largest bedroom, again the owner is aware but has no plans to replace or fix it. Smaller issues could easily have been resolved if the property was checked properly before changeover a new lightbulb needed in the bathroom and as we paid a large premium to stay at Christmas, which I checked would be decorated in advance I did expect the tree lights to work. Some small changes would make a big difference, like investing in new towels as we were provided with very worn, small bath towels.
Andrew
We had a most enjoyable family weekend nine including grandchildren in the heart of the forest, and the cold dark nights were heartened by an excellent log fire to keep us all warm and cosy. The cottage is exactly as described and what we had expected, and the age of the building and the layout all added to the atmosphere. On Sunday afternoon, 11 members of the local Baptist congregation gathered for their Sunday service in the 1877 chapel opposite and the hymn singing to a pipe organ created a wonderful background to the area as it might have been in the days of the coal mining community of about 150 years ago, and evident throughout the Forest of Dean
Jennifer
Beautifully decorated and furnished and very well equipped. Well situated to tour the Forest of Dean and wonderfully peaceful and attractive situation.
Pamela
Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting and we had the most enjoyable week. The beds very comfy and all rooms nicely decorated with amazing paintings everywhere. The bathrooms although completely adequate could do with updating. The garden furniture not really sufficient for more than four people and not in good condition and the barbeque was extremely rickety. All that said, we had a great time and would go back.
Simeon
All round lovely place. Thank you. Enjoyed the paintings but forgot to take down details of sales website. Only issue is upstairs loo which blocked twice, dealt with quite easily though. On the whole, would like to return to continue exploring the surrounding environs, didn't go down the mine or actually take a dip in St Anthonys' Well. Would like to see more sculpture trail, curtailed because of time, but we did see a family of wild Boar! So much more to explore.
This was a a great cottage for a larger family or group. Peaceful, quiet village but only 5 minutes drive to Littledean and 10 minutes to Cinderford. The cottage gave us the chance to stay under one roof with our children and grandchildren and now have all gained some special memories of this time together. The cottage had all the facilities to make the stay special including a large dinning table that comfortably sat all 7 of us. The games room was well used as well as relaxing and playing in the extensive beautiful gardens. Plenty of great places and attractions to visit nearby.
Anthony
While the seating for six people in the lounge area was sufficient, there would not have been enough comfortable seating for eight. There was an issue with the flushing mechanism for the upstairs toilet, but we soon found the 'knack' for operating it. The website description of outdoor facilities ought to be updated to say the the barbecue requires charcoal. Overall, we were very pleased with the property in its tranquil location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider returning.
Lovely cottage with beautiful garden. Very quiet location brilliant holiday.
Everything you could want in a holiday cottage, lovely old cottage, and lots to explore nearby.
Alison
This is the second time we have stayed at the cottage. Just as lovely the second time. Great place for a family to meet together. Beautiful gardens. Cottage well equipped and very comfortable.
Catharine
Charming cottage. Very well equipped. We enjoyed walks from the door and trips to River Wye and Monmouth.
Comfortable cottage making for an enjoyable stay. Nice area with some good walks through the forest.
Lovely and very comfortable home
